Sri Lanka Telecom Group as a responsible corporate citizen has decided to initiate a special natural disaster relief programme to provide relief and facilities to the people affected by the prevailing inclement weather condition, perhaps the most destructive natural disaster after tsunami in 2004. Following actions will be taken under this programme A sum of Rs. 6 million will be donated to special president's fund to contribute towards providing relief and facilities to such people. One day's salary of all employees of SLT, Mobitel and all other subsidiaries of the SLT group will also be donated for the same purpose. On the request of Hon. Harin Fernando, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure and Mr. P. G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chairman of SLT, it has been decided to provide 24 hours free information services on disastrous situations and relief providing initiatives through Government Information Center. SLT offices throughout the country will remain open to be used for providing relief and collecting goods to distribute among the people affected. Two special SLT and Mobitel telephone numbers will also be devoted to coordinate relief providing programs. Arrangements have also been made to initiate a special SMS service to raise public awareness about relief services. The management has further decided to provide disaster relief centers with telecommunication services through both SLT and Mobitel telephone services. With the dedicated mission of uplifting and the lives of all Sri Lankans as the national ICT services provider and a responsible corporate citizen, Sri Lanka Telecom PLC has taken all these steps with the view of making an exemplary contribution towards humanity while encouraging all other parties to join the nation as a whole at difficult times.
